The C4D Sound Studio is a professional all-in-one solution for Cinema 4D that seamlessly bridges the gap between audio production and 3D animation. The studio bundle currently consists of the Audioworkstation component and is scheduled to be expanded with an additional plugin in the near future. Sound Studio has been completely recoded from scratch and introduces many new features with this update.
The Audioworkstation combines three central tools under one roof to handle audio import, editing, and visual translation within Cinema 4D:
The separate main window contains the graphical core interface for creating your drum and synthesizer patterns in standard music production fashion. However, the step sequencer can also be used to quickly generate animation patterns—for example, to control flashing indicators or lights or any other paramter — without any audio signals at all.
Header Banner: Vector-based HTML graphic banner to visually enhance the plugin interface.
Track Selection (◀ / ▶): Cycles through the already created audio tracks.
B-Count (Pattern Count): Defines the length of the overall pattern (maximum of 4 bars). Use the arrow buttons to the right to switch between the individual bars.
BPM Display: Displays the tempo of the track, by default overwritten by the global BPM settings.
Show Tracks: Makes all created tracks visible in the Attribute Manager (AM) simultaneously. By default, only the track currently selected in the sequencer is focused in the AM for better clarity.
Solo / Mute: Solos the current track or mutes it completely.
Step Matrix (0–15): The 16 steps per pattern used for rhythm composition.
Top Row (Numbers): Step index.
Buttons with Cyan Indicator: Activates/deactivates the respective step.
TRANS / VEL / : Editable values below the steps for:
TRANS: Transposition (note value/pitch for pitch effects).
VEL: Velocity (velocity/volume of the step from 0 to 100).
Reset Buttons: Quick resets for Tabs (steps), Velocity (back to 100), or Transpose (back to 0).
Freeze Button: Freezes the track and loads the updated pattern directly into the Cinema 4D CTrack (keyframe timeline).
Skin & Close: Design switch (Light/Dark) on the bottom left, X button to close on the bottom right.
Preset System: Save and Load patterns for quick reuse.
Used for classic audio manipulation and trimming your loaded samples:
Tune / Reverse: Tune your sound to match other audio or reverse its playback.
Load / File / Play Sound: Imports the audio sample (.wav) and allows for pre-listening.
Volume (db) / Pan: Controls the volume and stereo panning of the track.
Trim Start / Trim End (ms): Precisely cuts the loaded audio sample at the beginning or end.
Fade In / Fade Out (ms): Creates smooth volume crossfades at the start or end of the sample.
Freeze Track: Bounces the pattern programmed in the step sequencer into a final audio file (if SEQ On/Off is active). Otherwise, the raw, imported sample is baked.
Takes the composed rhythms and audio data from the Audioworkstation and processes them for the 3D scene:
Create SndEffector: Automatically creates a C4D Sound Effector, links it to the calculated CTrack, and optimizes all frequency and sound settings for the animation.
Refresh SndEffector: Re-synchronizes an existing Sound Effector if the track’s audio sample has been replaced.
SEQ On/Off: Activates the step sequencer mode for this track to hand it over to the keyframe calculation.
Key Snap (rnd):
Enabled (True): Forces all generated keyframes precisely onto the frame grid of the C4D timeline (crucial for hard render boundaries).
Disabled (False): Sets highly precise sub-frames/in-between frames based exactly on the mathematical BPM time span (perfect for maximum audio synchronicity).
Release: The length of the linear decay (fade-out) in frames. When set to 0, the curve automatically switches to hard STEP mode. The generated keyframes can control any object parameter via XPresso or Set-Driven Keys.
Loops (Repeats): Specifies how many times the programmed pattern is duplicated and repeated consecutively in the timeline. This affects both audio and keyframe generation. The MIDI export is not affected by this.
End Clip:
Enabled: The last release keyframe is cut off exactly 1 frame before the absolute end of the loop, preventing the sound from spilling over the total length.
Disabled: The final step is naturally allowed to fully decay past the mathematical end.
Create Keyframes: Starts the calculation algorithm and writes the finished animation data into the User Data track.
Export Midi: Exports the pattern of the Step Sequencer to a MIDI-File, which you can import into a DAW like Cubase
Add Track: Creates a new, empty audio track including its own track group in the AM.
Cache Folder: Path to the temporary audio directory (includes Open to reveal and Change to modify it).
BPM: Global input for the exact beats per minute of the entire project.
